More than 4,000 visitors attended the latest edition of the Career Village, which Qatar Career Development Center (QCDC), a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), this year organized in cooperation with the Social Development Center, ‘Nama’.

The three-day event, held at Multaqa (Education City Student Center), welcomed preparatory and secondary school students from 100 public and private schools from across Qatar, who learned about various professions, as well as the academic disciplines that lead to these career paths.

The event was attended by His Excellency Mr. Yousuf Mohamed Al Othman Fakhroo, Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, and Mrs. Buthaina Ali Al Nuaimi, President of Pre-University Education, QF.

His Excellency Mr. Fakhroo showed significant interest in how participating entities were showcasing career opportunities, and praised the event’s practical approach to promoting professional awareness and reaching out to visitors, particularly students.

Mr. Abdulla Al Mansoori, Director, QCDC, said: “We are delighted with Career Village’s continued success, and are pleased with the meaningful outputs that these comprehensive, useful, and enjoyable events produce. QCDC places strong emphasis on promoting a culture of career planning among youth without putting any kind of psychological pressure on students. Rather, we must provide youth with all the tools to help them choose the most appropriate career paths in line with their qualifications and ambitions, in a favorable atmosphere that ensures their future success and contribute to the nation’s prosperity.”

On the sidelines of the event, Nama launched its ‘Tamakkan’ campaign, an initiative designed to raise awareness among the youth of the importance of career development in line with the needs of the Qatari job market, drawing on the expertise of experienced professionals and retirees to equip young people with the skills to contribute to their community.

Mrs. Amal A. Al-Mannai, CEO of Qatar Foundation for Social Work and Acting Executive Director of Nama, said she was pleased with the center’s participation in Career Village, noting that Nama’s participation has enabled social entrepreneurs and members of Tamakkan’s campaign to connect with school and university.

Mrs. Al-Mannai added that Nama not only succeeded in educating youth on how to benefit from the project while raising awareness of the importance of professional development, but has also set examples of how hard-working youth can identify the needs of the community and contribute to its development.

Noora Ali Al-Kuwari, Qatar University Student Enrollment Development Specialist, said: “The purpose of our participation is to attract students to the new College of Dentistry that we recently inaugurated. We have noticed a lot of interest from students in this specialization, and we have provided them with the admission guidelines. Through our participation, we aim to support Qatari secondary school students who seek to join science programs by familiarizing them with the admission requirements because these specialties are of great importance to the future of Qatar.”

Students met with representatives of participating institutions and universities to inquire about job opportunities and took part in interactive activities that provided insight into various professions.

Sheikha Saeed Al Nuaimi, a student at Al Maha Academy for Girls, said: “During my visit, I was able to learn in a relatively short time about the large number of academic and career opportunities available in Qatar. I also learned about the scholarship and training opportunities offered by various institutions in the country, which made me reconsider the academic track I want to pursue.”

The event also featured a caricature exhibition organized by Nama to highlight the challenges faced by youth when it comes to professional development.
