QCDC’s Career Games for Children

Introduction

Qatar Career Development Center (QCDC), a member of Qatar Foundation, seeks to help students from different educational paths and stages achieve their career aspirations through a high-level set of career development programs, services, and specialized activities, which have been devised by a group of distinguished career guidance and development experts. QCDC also works to provide the support and knowledge that young people need to develop career plans, take sound decisions, and achieve the career growth and development they aspire to.

In 2017, QCDC began offering several programs and initiatives targeting children aged four and above, as QCDC believes in the importance of providing career guidance for children from a young age. Through these programs and initiatives, QCDC seeks to introduce children to the concept of career planning and help them explore their optimal future career path, in a way that is both educational and entertaining, in addition to allowing them to discover career options that align with their interests and capabilities.

Releasing the career games is part of a new QCDC initiative dedicated to children. It aims at introducing them to the different professions, the role of workers in each profession, and the importance of their roles in society – an endeavor that would expand children’s future career options and help them realize the importance of each profession.

QCDC offers two interesting games suitable for children aged four to 10, namely:

  • ‘Career Heroes’ Card Game
  • ‘What do I want to be when I grow up?’ Puzzle

About the Games:

  • ‘Career Heroes’ Card Game

The game consists of 50 cards, each of which includes the name of a career and an image associated with it, as well as a question. Players must answer the question and guess the profession that the card represents to get it. At the end of the challenge, the winner is the one who collects the most cards.

During the game, the youngest player draws a card and reads the question thereon, to be answered by the player sitting to their right. If the player answers the question correctly, they keep the card. If the answer is incorrect, the card is returned to the bottom of the deck. The next player draws a card to ask the next player to their right, and so on until the cycle is completed and it repeats until all the cards have been drawn.

When the cards in the game are finished, each player counts the total number of cards collected, and the winner is the one with the most cards.

  • ‘What do I want to be when I grow up?’ Puzzle

The game contains three wooden puzzle sets, with pictures and names of different professions. Each puzzle consists of 48 disassembled pieces. The player must collect these pieces to complete the puzzles to be able to see the picture and name of each profession.

The card game is priced at 49 QAR and the puzzle (x 3 boards) is priced at 129 QAR.
