Qatar Career Development Center (QCDC), a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), has opened registration for the fifth edition of its Career Advisor Training Course (CATC). The initiative aims to provide participants with essential career guidance and planning skills to assist young people in their professional development journeys.

Launched in 2015, CATC is the first customized training program for careers advisors in Qatar and the Arabian Gulf region. This year it is set to take place from March 4–8, from 8:30am to 3:30pm, at the Education City Clubhouse.

The course, offered only in English, brings together career advisors, academic and vocational counsellors, human resources personnel, professors, instructors, scholars, and parents who play a key role in their children’s career decisions.

Mr. Abdulla Ahmed Al Mansoori, Director, QCDC, said: “Following the success of the previous editions of the Career Advisor Training Course, we are delighted to once again offer it to those interested in developing key career guidance skills. During the five-day program, participants will learn how to use technology-based applications that benefit career development and how to make better-informed choices about post-secondary majors in order to help students or adults with their career choices and planning. The course plays a crucial role in shaping the future of the country as it provides participants with the necessary skills to guide young people in Qatar.”

Course instructors include Anita Abraham, Professional Development Specialist of Science, National Center for Educational Development, College of Education, Qatar University, who has worked in the field of education for 25 years; and Susanna Mascarenhas, Professional Development Specialist, National Center for Educational Development, College of Education, Qatar University, who, with a career spanning 28 years in Doha, has seen first-hand the growth of education in Qatar.

The course will focus on nine areas, including ‘Helping Skills’, ‘Career Development and Choice Theory’, ‘Assessment and Career Planning’, ‘The Role of Information in Career Planning’, ‘Ethical Guidelines’, ‘Working with Groups’, ‘Using Technology’, ‘Employability Skills’, and ‘Program Planning and Implementation’.

Additionally, throughout the duration of the course, and six months thereafter, participants will have access to an online interface for the course, which will serve as a knowledge bank.

Registration fees for the CATC is QR 5,000, and can be paid at QCDC offices located at the QF Housing Maintenance Building, adjacent to the Education City Clubhouse. Those who register before February 5 will be offered a discounted rate.
