QCDC’s ‘My Career – My Future’ program offers students an opportunity to take future career for a test drive
Latest edition of the program empowers high school students to go through real work experience at organizations of their choice
Doha, Qatar- June 8, 2022: The fast-paced technological developments of the past decade, marked by the rise of artificial intelligence, robotics and job automation among other emerging innovations, have left a profound impact on the global job market.
Some jobs have since slowly faded while others have gained ground, leaving many students undecided over which career path best aligns with their skills and aspirations.
In line with its mission to instill a career guidance culture among youth, Qatar Career Development Center (QCDC), a member of Qatar Foundation, has opened registration for the fourth edition of its flagship ‘My Career – My Future’ program – an initiative that introduces high school students to real work environments in several industries across Qatar.
The program, which takes place physically from June 26-30, 2022, will see students gaining first-hand insights into jobs at organizations of their choice, allowing them to identify the professions that best match their interests and skills.
‘My Career – My Future’ will be held in Arabic only, and will cover numerous disciplines including aviation, medicine, veterinary medicine, media, filmmaking, event management, tourism, agricultural engineering, banking, transportation and shipping, business management, social work, and library management.
Shaheen Hamad Al-Sulaiti, Senior Career Programs and Services Officer, QCDC, said: “Our aim is to incentivize creativity, enlighten youth, and empower them to make the right academic and career choices. The program offers students an unprecedented opportunity to learn the concepts of self-reliance and responsibility through providing them with hands-on experience to chart their own academic and career paths.
“We encourage students in Qatar to sign up for the program, as this experience will serve as a starting point to pursue their future academic and career ambitions. The previous editions were an incredible success, and we look forward to welcoming students once again on-the-ground to this exciting initiative.”
On the first day, participating students will meet representatives from various organizations, and will join the organization they chose over the following days to learn about professions in this organization and the extent to which they match their skills and potentials. These organizations include Qatar Airways, Hamad Medical Corporation, Equine Veterinary Medical Center, Al Kass Sports Channels, Doha Film Institute, Qatar National Convention Centre, Katara Cultural Village, Quranic Botanic Garden, Commercial Bank, QTerminals, Social Development Center – Nama, Qatar University and Qatar National Library.
To help students plan for their academic paths in an informed manner, and in line with their career aspirations, the last day of the program will bring them together with representatives of various universities to discuss the academic programs and majors they offer, the application process, and admission requirements. Moreover, participating students will be offered a free license to use QCDC’s online Career Advising System (CAS), the most comprehensive career planning system in Qatar and the region, to help them identify their most appropriate academic and career options using psychometric and personality assessment tools. They will also have the chance to book a free virtual career advising session to discuss the results of the assessments and seek advice from a QCDC’s professional career expert.
All students who successfully complete the program will be awarded participation certificates outlining the working hours they spent at the participating organizations.
